| George Manney - director - producer
George was in production with two larger documentary's about the history of Philadelphia's music ("Philly Pop Music, The Lost Pioneers" & "City of Brotherly Love, a musical journey") when one of his interviewees, Rufus Harley, passed away. Manney thought, "Let me put out a documentary about Rufus, to help sustain his life and contribution as the world's first jazz bagpipe player. I have no budget, but his message of freedom has to be heard & seen now."
Working on the documentary is a healing process for Manney both mentally and spiritually since a car accident left him with a handicap.
In March 1992 George suffered multiple trauma injuries to his body after being struck by a car as he crossed the street. This accident left George with a permanent handicap to adjust to. As he was recuperating, he decided to release & produce a benefit CD for the Philadelphia community: Last Minute Jam Vol.1 in 1996. Wanting to capture the nature of the Last Minute Jam, George invited some of Philly's finest artists to record two volumes of the Last Minute Jam CD's. Volume 2 was released in 1998 after George's mother (Madeline) was struck and killed by a hit & run driver.
Now George and B.L.A.S.T. are in production with the documentary, "Philly Pop Music, The Lost Pioneers". See our Links page to view clips & photos in production.
George received a Mid-Atlantic Emmy nomination in 1995-96 for Outstanding Music Composition
Manney was also awarded a Honor in 1996-97 Mid Atlantic Emmy Award Honor George Manney (Composer/Producer) for contributing to the winning of a Mid - Atlantic Emmy award by "PRISM MUSIC MAGAZINE OPEN 96" Chosen for Outstanding Production Design |
